Locomotive Electrician

Keep Norfolk Southern’s diesel-electric locomotives running safely across its freight network. This hands-on trainee role teaches you to inspect, repair, rebuild and install locomotive electrical systems through about seven weeks of paid classroom and field training, then moves you into shift work in the shop and yard. The union position starts at $21.31 an hour and progresses to the full journeyman rate of $42.62 an hour after two years. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and to be at least 18; two years of electrician experience, trade-school training or a journeyman card are preferred.
